The chamber music series Saitenspiel in the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal opens on September 27. The new season is dedicated to Felix Mendelssohn – and there is a special story about the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal and this composer: The names of Mendelssohn, Offenbach and Meyerbeer, which (together with 22 other composers and poets ) decorated the frieze of the Stadthalle since its opening in 1896 were knocked off in 1934 by the Nazis. The restoration of these names on the frieze will take place a soon as the city of Wuppertal and the monument protection office will agree.
The five young musicians who will open the season this Sunday in the Mendelssohn Saal of the Historische Stadthalle Wuppertal are all embarking on a very promising career: the Goldmund Quartet from Munich – and the young Spanish clarinettist Pablo Barragán. Together they will play one of the finest chamber works ever: Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet (Pablo Barragán on the basset clarinet!). Also on the program: Mendelssohn’s A minor Quartet op. 13 and Bartok’s String Quartet no. 3. We are looking forward to an exciting start to our season!
