Consulting – Coaching – Creative Concepts
Together with nine students, my colleague PD Dr. Yvonne Wasserloos and I went for an ERASMUS visit from the Robert Schumann Hochschule Dusseldorf to the Royal Academy of Music London, from 22 to 29 February 2016.
We attended the music history classes by Dr. Raymond Holden, where six of our students gave short lectures on topics of the cultural exchange between Germany and the UK – about Haydn, Mendelssohn, Elgar, The Beatles, Vaughan Williams and Kraftwerk.
How creative projects can open up new areas of activity and expertise for professional musicians, we could learn from the current projects of the Open Academy: a “Recorder Extravaganza” and a composition project of Spitalfields Music Festival for primary school pupils, a music project for adult refugees at Cardinal Hume Centre (Westminster) and a concert for people with dementia “Music for the moment” at St. Marylebone Parish Church. Participation in workshops and an intensive exchange with Open Academy Head Julian West, project managers and students gave us an inspiring experience!
Our program was complemented by a wonderful tour of the music department of the British Library, visits to the Handel House & Hendrix Flat and the Foundling Museum.
Thanks to everyone who gave us such a warm welcome!
